Success
has over the years been preached in almost everywhere man finds himself.
In fact, if truth be told, the core essence of education for many is to become
successful in different aspects of life; the religious institution even
views it as a necessary prerogative for their followers to achieve, while clubs, societies, and
associations are primarily formed so that their members can become successful.
However,
the irony is that the efforts of all these bodies have to a large extent not yielded the expected result. The question on your mind is as good as mine. Why? It is
puzzling to note that even as much as success is desired, so many people do not
know its pre-requisite. HARDWORK has been seen from ages past to be a pre-requisite for success, yet
one needs wisdom to make his hard work really work.
The
Marketing Mix is another wisdom tool, I present to you in this article as a
worthy weapon to note in the journey of Success.
Marketing
Mix is simply defined as the combination of decisions on the elements of
marketing that spell out the marketer’s strategy. They are often referred to
as the 4Ps of marketing which include Product,
Price, Place, and Promotion.
Firstly,
You are the product in the marketing
mix. Therefore decisions made to make a product successful include Product
quality, product design, product branding, and packaging, etc. Therefore, to be
successful, you as the product must employ these decisions. You've got to
improve yourself by investing in yourself via knowledge acquisition(either
formal or informal education) e.g. acquire computer skills, drawing, fashion,
weaving, crafts, etc. This is the product quality decision we talked about earlier. In the product design decisions, this means you've got to be known for
something, not anything, and finally, the packaging decision means carrying and
packaging yourself in such a manner that you get desired response from people,
this means, the way you dress will determine the way you will be addressed.
Secondly,
in the second marketing mix which is Price,
the following decisions have to be considered to make it successful.
Setting base price, Discount, Allowances, payment period, and credit terms.
Remember that the essence of developing yourself (i.e. the product) is to make
it sell-able, therefore having acquired enough knowledge and skills, sell it out
by setting an optimum price, give discounts to customers remembering you have
competition, do not forget some will come for credit, so design policy in
regard to this and state repayment procedures in written form jointly agreed by
both parties.
Thirdly,
Promotion, in the marketing mix
includes decisions like sales promotion, advertising, sales force public
relations etc to make it successful. You've got to advertise what you sell (i.e.
the product which is you, remember?) make yourself known, stimulate interests
in potential buyers(e.g. an employee) through sales promotion, and finally
relate with the public to get feedback so as to correct anything that will make
your product(you) unacceptable. This means summarily that, you should do all
you can to publicize your gifting, skills, and talents.
Fourthly,
Place, the last in the marketing mix
considers decisions like channels, coverage, locations, inventory, and transport
for its effectiveness. Therefore, you've got to position yourself (Product) in
the right location to sell well, also consider how you will make
yourself(product) available to buyers, and the right channel to get across to
them, etc.
Finally,
one truth remains that failure is an orphan, but success is a friend to anybody
who knows 'how' (wisdom) to embrace it, no wonder the holy book said of wisdom, that it is the principal
thing, meaning, it is the major thing required for success even
before employing hard work.
Therefore I commend you to crave wisdom.
I see you at the top.
Shalom
