NERC Reduces Electricity Tariff by 50%

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has reduced the multi-year tariff at all classes of electricity consumers.
The reduction came after industrial and commercial consumers under the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, M.A.N, petitioned the commission, asking for a review of the MYTO 2.1.
According to NERC, the high cost in tariff was due to the huge aggregate technical commercial and collection losses, which some consumers are made to bear.
The removal of collection losses from customer’s tariff is expected to reduce tariff by more than fifty percent in some places.
The distribution companies are to come up with other strategies to recover their costs and ensure efficient operations. Source
