Where do we turn our eyes to in this generation? It’s as if sex has been forced and entrenched as acceptable moral standard in our society. There is virtually no place you go to or turn to that you will not somehow be greeted by some measure of sexual lures either in words, sight or action.
The nature of Man revolves around
four events or places: First, his home where he resides after the day’s work;
secondly is the place of work (or Schools for the young ones); thirdly is the
place of worship and finally, the place of relaxation (clubs, society meetings,
sports arena, bars etc)
Suffice to say that all the
aforementioned places above have all been ridden with sexual enticement and
this is repeatedly becoming inimical to the society and the health of the
future generation.
First, the home where moral standard are
expected to be taught is lacking in its duties, instead this demon, call Sex is
succeeding creeping into the hearts of little children with all the dirty stuff
shown on television. Even when a parent restricts a child to view only cartoon
stations, such parents may not be able to restrict paid advert that may include
obscenities from creeping into the choice station. Is the Parent who is guiding
the child indispensable? I doubt it. As the child is vulnerable from watching
obscenities repeatedly consciously or otherwise from the television, so also is
the parent, though the probability here is lower. More worrisome in the home is
the fact that some Children now have tablets and smart phones with internet
access. Almost all teenagers will abuse this device when not controlled.
Furthermore, the place of work for
adults or schools for children/teens has worsened some faulty foundation the home
has laid. In this century, most offices have computers all connected to the
internet. This has overtime become bait the devil has use for many employees
whether willing or not to feed their eyes with obscene materials. The morally
upright individual unwilling to delve into the consumption of such indecent
material is sometimes helplessly welcomed by the same indecency videos upon
logging into his email or visiting decent sites because producers markets and
advertise their products this days majorly on the net. So with online marketing
tools (like ad sense and ad words) prevalent now, paid ads will often pop in
your screen uninvited and many at times they are indecent in nature.
Advertisers often has the Slogan “sex sells” thus has bedeviled our societies
with what they show us.
The Most painful and annoying places
in the foregoing Scenario, is the place of worship particularly the church. I
thought if the home and the society failed us, the church is supposed to be the
last resort, the place of redemption, correction, mentorship, rededication and
consecration? Well, in my own opinion I think the church is gradually losing
its purpose. Or else how do we explain this luring mode of dressing prevalent
in most churches these days? I thought the bible talked about moderation in our
dressing especially for the women ( 1Tim 2:9). I bet the trend of dressing
today is opposite of what the holy book is saying. I interacted with some young
men recently and got some shocking revelation of how they come to church sizing
up the shapes of ladies, lusting after them and going all out for them. They
claim that many of this ladies dressed that way to seek out the opposite sex
attention. In my little counseling sessions with adolescents and young adults,
I have come to hear them fix church services as meeting time and meeting place
for them to take off with their girlfriends who lie to their parents of going
to church.
Pitifully, the church is not even
trying to address these Salient issues rather she is growing in numbers but
getting weaker in impacts.
Finally, the place of relaxation
(bars, society meetings, sports arena etc) is usually the rendezvous where
sexual discussions are encouraged and enjoyed.
If we are bombarded with sexual
invitations all round in all places that we find ourselves, do we then have a
way of escape? What then does the future hold for the future generation? Martin
Luther King said, “Morality cannot be legislated, it can only be regulated”
Before things will fall apart and the centre would be unable to hold (e.g. of
situations where centre can no longer hold: full acceptance and practice of gay,
polyandry, bestiality, pedophilia, pederasty, rape etc), how do we then
personally regulate this demonic ills?
Perhaps the foregoing statement will
help:
Wherewithal
shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy
word.
Thy
word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm
119:9&11).
In conclusion, time may not permit
me to elucidate on the above scriptures but note that the word of God is truth
and you can’t do anything against or contrary to the truth. Think, ponder and
meditate on that scripture vis-à-vis this article. I trust the Holy Spirit to
illuminate your heart. Till I bring you more inspirational write up. Stay
rapturable.
