The 41st Olubadan of Ibadan land, Saliu Adetunji, has been installed at the biggest traditional event in the history of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
An assemblage of the best of monarchy in Nigeria; Governors, representatives of government at all levels, the business and diplomatic community and religious leaders witnessed the red letter event on Friday.
Presenting the Staff of Office to the new Olubadan, the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, charged the new monarch to work for the enthronement of a new culture of peace, development and social justice.
Governor Ajimobi noted that the presence of all the first class monarchs in the country at the installation ceremony was a pointer to the fact that the traditional institutions are uniting beyond ethnic and political bounds for a stable and better developed Nigeria.
Born in 1928 to the family of Mr and Mrs Olayiwola Adetunji, the monarch, one of the foremost show biz record label owners in Nigeria, joined the kingship lane in 1976 and after 23 steps from the Balogun line, he became the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan land.
In his acceptance speech which was made in Yoruba, HRM Olatunji expressed gratitude to all present.
The monarch, however, made only two requests – the creation of Ibadan State and the upgrade of Ibadan airport.
