After four months of speculation, SaharaReporters reveals that President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees include a battery of former governors and politicians.
Among them are: Dr. Chris Ngige (Anambra), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Babatunde Fashola (Lagos).
Others nominees are Abdurrahman Dambazau (rtd) (Kano), Aisha AlHassan (Taraba), Ogbonaya Onu, Kemi Adeosun (Ogun), Abubakar Malami (SAN), Senator Sirika Hadi (Katsina), Barrister Adebayo Shittu, and former Senator Udo Udoma.
The Presidency had promised the public and media networks that the nominations would be announced by the end of September, but by the end of the plenary session of the Senate on Wednesday, the list had not arrived at the Office of Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Later in the day, SaharaReporters reported that Senator Saraki welcomed the Senior Special Advisor to the President for National Assembly (Senate), Ita Enang and the President’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, who brought the much-awaited list of ministerial nominees.
It was learned on Tuesday from the international media that President Buhari would serve as the Minister of Petroleum, to enable him control the reorganization of that sector and ensure corrupt officials are prosecuted.
On Twitter on Tuesday, Saraki indicated he would treat the confirmation process with urgency.
The 21 names were submitted to Senate are according to sources. SaharaReporters could not independently confirm the listed names from the Senate President or spokesperson to President Muhammad Buhari.
