“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits down not first, and counts the cost, whether he has sufficient to finish it” Luke 14:28

Today, I will be sharing with you one major law that brings adequate planning and proper priority into our lives. It is called the 80-20 rule; the law of least effort.
This rule is discovered by an Italian economist by the name- Vilfredo Pareto.
Hence the rule is also known as the Pareto principle.
I have discovered that laws make success predictable, the whole universe is governed by laws.
The law of least effort or the 80-20 rule states that 80% of your results come from only 20% of your efforts!

In other words, when we live the 80-20 way we can obtain extraordinary results without actually putting in extraordinary efforts.
That is, a small amount of energy well channeled can lead to great things in our lives. Little begins to count much when we live the 80-20 way!
On the other hand, a small portion of our time in a day well directed can lead to stunning and staggering results on a daily basis.

Fleshing out the 80-20 rule!
·        20% of your daily activities account for 80% of your daily outcomes.
·        20% of the class contribute to 80% of the nuisance in the class.
·        20% of the subject syllabus generate 80% of the examination questions.
·        20% of the clothes in your wardrobe get worn by you 80% of the time.
·        You play with 20% of your toys, 80% of the time.
·        Only 20% of your peers (friendships) contribute to 80% of your happiness and growth per time.
·        About 20% of the church members give 80% of the offerings.
·        About 20% of the motorists contribute to 80% of the traffic per time.
·        You watch 20% of the movies in the drawer 80% of the time.

BOOSTERS OF THE 80-20 RULE
In the field of Electrical and electronic engineering, a booster is a device that increases the force of transmission and reception from a station.
There are certain principles that boost our chances of applying the 80-20 rule in our lives and destinies on a daily basis.
1.    PLANNING
2.    PRIORITY
3.    SELF DISCIPLINE
4.    TIME/FOCUS MANAGEMENT

1.    PLANNING
Planning is the act of putting your dreams and goals down on paper. Charting your course practically so as to ensure a safe landing. Every aircraft has a flight plan that connects it to the control tower. A flight without a plan ends up in disaster. Destiny without proper planning cannot get to its desired destination. A wise man once noted that ‘The future is never in view for a plan-less person.
Planning therefore is in locating that 20% that will give you the 80% result in life.’
As a young person, you must have a plan for your life. The truth is if you don’t have a functional plan for your life you will fit into other people’s plan for you; and guess what they have in store for you? Not so much!

2.    PRIORITY
In order to imbibe and live the 80-20 way, we must learn to identify the vital few and trivial many in our daily activities, friendships, tasks etc.
Priority helps you to identify first thing from second thing on the list of your planned activities. First thing first  is the slogan of highly effective people.
German philosopher Goethe once noted that- ‘the things that matter most must never be at the mercy of the things that matter least.’  That’s very insightful!
When a student sets his priorities right success can be possible and feasible.
Everyone must set their priorities right to be
highly successful in their endeavors.

3.    SELF- DISCIPLINE
“He who has no rule over his own spirit  is like a city with broken down and without walls.” Proverbs 25:28 (Amplified)
Here’s what separates the royals from the peasants. People differ from one another not in terms of color but in the degree of their self-discipline.
Only the disciplined end up as eagles among men. Self-discipline is being a law to yourself. Average work well only under supervision but disciplined people do well even without supervision because they have become a law to themselves!
You are as free to the degree of your self- discipline in life. Discipline is the capacity to hold yourself to a set of high standards in life and destiny.
It is the ability to do what needs to be done when it is to be done whether you feel like it or not. Self-discipline is the key to self- mastery in life and destiny.
A wise man once noted that there are two kinds of pains in life: the pain of discipline and the pain of regrets. The latter outweighs the former.
In order to live the 80-20 rule, you must embrace self-discipline in all you do, to plan your work and work your plan; self-discipline is not negotiable!

4.    MANAGE YOUR FOCUS WELL
“If your eye is single, your whole body will be full of light…” Mathew 6:22
Focus, focus. Focus! That is the main determinant of what we eventually become in life and destiny.
Our lives always resonate in the direction of our focus. It is your focus that create your blindness! Yes, what you are blind to is a product of what you have chosen to focus on. One thing is true, people end up at what they focus on. Your focus is what makes you a focus!
In order to live the 80-20 rule, we must focus well on the vital few that brings the 80% of the total outcome. Average people focus daily on the trivial many and they end up having only 20% of their outcomes met.
The moment you change your focus, you change your life direction and ultimately your destination is affected. It’s a law!
Remember, wherever focus goes there your energy goes!
